§ 110-31. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Applicant means every person who may make application for an operator's license as provided in this article.

    Driver means any natural person who is in actual physical control of a taxicab or limousine.

    Driver's permit means the written permit granted by the city clerk to a person to drive any licensed taxicab or limousine upon the streets of the city, issued pursuant to the provisions of this article.

    Limousine means any automobile, with chauffeur, engaged in the transportation of persons for a consideration which does not operate regularly or at intervals over a designated route and which is not fitted with a meter or device for calculating or measuring the distance travelled or the waiting time of such vehicle and which is constructed so as to carry five or more passengers in the vehicle.

    Manifest means a daily record prepared by each taxicab or limousine driver of all trips made by the driver showing time and place of origin, designation, number of passengers, and the amount of fare for each trip.

    Street means any public place, including but not limited to, streets, boulevards, avenues, drives, or alleys, commonly used for the purpose of public travel.

    Taxicab means any motor vehicle regularly engaged in the business of carrying passengers for hire which operates within the corporate limits of the city, and not operated on a fixed route.

    Taximeter means a meter, instrument or device attached to a taxicab that automatically calculates, at a predetermined rate, and indicates the charge for hire of a vehicle.
