§ 102-1. Utility department.

  • For the better interest of the city and its citizens, and for more efficient operation of the utilities of the city, there is hereby established a utility department which includes the following:

    (1)

    Electric generation and distribution.

    (2)

    Natural gas distribution.

    (3)

    Water supply and distribution.

    (4)

    Sewerage system.

    (5)

    Meters.

    (6)

    Purchasing.

    (7)

    Building permits and inspection.

    (8)

    Streets, repair and maintenance.

    (9)

    Garbage and trash disposal and collection.

    (10)

    Utility consumer billing.

    (11)

    Customer deposits.

    All of the responsibilities are to be placed under the supervision and management of a utilities director and an assistant utilities director who are to be appointed by the city commission. However, subsections (10) and (11) of this section are placed under the direct supervision of the city clerk and are both directly accountable to the city commission and shall follow and be controlled by the instructions laid down by the city commission.
